What is Project Egg?

Project Egg is my plan to turn a 1996 Toyota Emina Estima Minvan into a fully functioning mini camper-van / ultra marathon support vehicle.

Where did this idea come from?

Years ago the wife and I took a trip to Amsterdam in a Wicked Camper and although we had a great time I hadn’t though much about it since. Until recently that was when I was looking for pre-race accommodation for Brighton Marathon and the cheapest hotel left was £300/night! I thought wouldn’t it be great to have a camper and rock up at any race with a bed to sleep in and a race hub to base myself from. Those that know me will know that when I get an idea in my head I run with it and I’m doing exactly that.

Why is it called Project Egg?

Because the vehicle is egg-shaped and Project Minivan doesn’t have the same ring.

Where are we at now?

So far I have purchased the vehicle but being 20 years old and having a fair few miles on the clock I want to get it checked out by a local garage before spending any more money. I have however had the following logo knocked up by fellow runner Richard Hayes ( @runs4caffeine ) and this will eventually festoon the back window.

What’s next?

Once the Eggshell has had the thumbs up from the garage my next steps will be fitting a leisure battery and fitting any extra electrics and lighting before the interior build gets underway. Watch this space for more updates.
